Free National Conference at the Mermaid Centre, London

Wednesday 25 June 2008

9.45 am - 3.50 pm

Beverley Hughes, Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families, will be giving the keynote address at this national conference, which offers:

. detailed information from the Early Learning Partnerships Project on a range of different, effective approaches to engage parents with their young children's learning

. information on the successful use of different approaches to training the early years workforce to undertake this work

. examples of a range of programmes that can be commissioned to meet local needs and help achieve improved outcomes for children and narrow the gap at age five

. a presentation of the detailed evaluation of the project that looks at the practice and process of effective engagement in learning of parents with young children

This free national conference presents the results of the Early Learning Partnership Project (ELPP), which explored best practice in helping parents to engage in their young children's learning. The ELPP organisations and their partners used well-known programmes to facilitate engagement, such as PEAL (Parents, Early Years and Learning) and PAFT (Parents as First Teachers) and many others, which were supported by extensive training for practitioners. The work was carried out in a wide range of different settings and the project has been externally evaluated by Oxford University. The research findings and associated report will be launched at the conference and a summary of the programme and research will be provided for all those attending.

This event is highly recommended for local authority Early Years Leads, National Strategies Foundation Advisers, commissioners of parenting and children's services, Directors of Children's Services, Children's Services Advisers, Government Office Parenting Leads, family learning leads and those in the voluntary sector who are involved with this area of work.
